Trash into Treasure: Live Painting at ICAST 2025
This year at ICAST, OneWater Brands and Project SeaSafe are flipping the script on tradeshow booth expectations with a live painting activation that blends art, conservation, and a whole lot of fun.
Led by marine artist Derek Redwine, Connected by Water’s Dennis Friel, and rising talent Jessica Sweeney, the SeaSafe creative team will be painting a 72” x 36” leaping blue marlin—live at the booth. But this isn’t your typical paintbrush-and-canvas operation.
This marlin will be painted using actual trash collected off Florida’s beaches by Cory Redwine, Project SeaSafe’s Conservation Director. That includes old house brushes, cracked plastic shovels, worn-out makeup brushes, toothbrushes—and whatever else she’s deviously added to the “makeshift brush” pile. (She loves to surprise the team.)
“We’re painting with the problem,” said Derek Redwine. “The stuff choking our beaches doesn’t just disappear. So we’re using it to paint a marlin—because that’s what’s at stake.”
But don’t worry—it’s not all doom and gloom. It’s also fun, weird, and memorable. And throughout the week, many of the pros hanging around the booth will be invited to add their own strokes to the piece. The result? A one-of-a-kind art time capsule of ICAST 2025 that may end up being worth some serious coin when it hits the auction block.
We are excited for our 3rd year
This marks the third year that marine artists Dennis Friel and Derek Redwine have teamed up for a live painting at ICAST, and every year it gets better. There’s something about creating art in real time—surrounded by friends, industry legends, and future conservation partners—that brings a contagious energy to the booth. It’s not just about the brushstrokes; it’s about the conversations that happen while they’re happening. For us, ICAST is more than a tradeshow—it’s a reunion. It’s where we celebrate the work OneWater Brands is doing, connect with longtime friends, and remind each other why we love this industry.
We’re also incredibly excited to welcome Jessica Sweeney into the SeaSafe artist crew this year. Her perspective, style, and passion for conservation make her a perfect addition to the team, and we hope she finds ICAST as inspiring as we do. Be sure to stop by booth #2023 to see the art in progress and grab a free signed poster—Dennis, Derek, and Jessica will each be giving them out daily while supplies last. And don’t forget to BID online below on last year’s tuna painting being auctioned by the ASA – Party for a Purpose. It’s going to a great cause, and like everything we do, it’s part of a bigger mission: protecting the water we all love. ATTENTION: SILENT AUCTION – ICAST 24 PAINTING “CHAOS AT SUNRISE”
More than just ART
Raising Awareness & Funding
After the show, the finished painting will be auctioned off, with proceeds supporting Project SeaSafe’s conservation partners, including:
The Indian River Lagoon Clam Restoration Project
SeaRedwine Preservation and Black Lagoon Preservation, protecting waterfront lands from development
New Swell Restoration, rebuilding mangrove shorelines across Florida
Knot Lucky, helping veterans tag great white sharks for purpose-driven healing
Groups like CCA Florida, IGFA, and more doing the real work in our coastal communities
“The blue marlin isn’t just a fish—it’s a symbol of sportfishing, of power, and of the waters we all want to keep clean,” said Dennis Friel. “This is how we as artists can contribute in a tangible way.”
WE DO THE WORK: SEASAFE AT ICAST
At OneWater Brands, we believe clean water isn’t someone else’s problem—it’s everyone’s responsibility. That’s why Project SeaSafe isn’t just a program, it’s a movement. This year at ICAST, our booth is more than a display—it’s a working demonstration of what happens when brands, scientists, artists, anglers, and everyday water lovers come together with a shared mission: to protect the places we all fish, boat, and explore.
At booth #2023, you’ll find:
A live saltwater tank filled with mangroves, native species, and clams—demonstrating real habitat restoration
Live art by Derek Redwine, Dennis Friel, and Jessica Sweeney—painting a marlin using trash pulled from Florida’s beaches
Conservation activations with Dr. Todd Osborne, Capt. Alex Gorichky, and Cory Redwine
New products from Star brite, TH Marine, YakGear, and more—all aligned with clean water innovation
Opportunities to scan in, sign up, and become a “Do Gooder” in your own waterway
This is where conservation meets creativity—and where OneWater Brands shows what’s possible when we work together. Whether you’re in the industry or on the water every weekend, stop by and see why SeaSafe is the beating heart of what we believe in.
